For sale is a superb pair of sliced rhodochrosite from Argentina that has sharp features as well as bands of red, pink and white. The rhodochrosite was deposited in hydrothermal veins in thin layers and multiple rings, and the thin stripes of color are characteristic of rhodochrosite that grew as annual growth rings in the form of stalactites and flow stone. The weight of this gem is a hefty 295gms. This very aesthetic piece has been polished on both sides to show the very fine interior color banding, and is very impressive when backlit.

The rhodochrosite was deposited in hydrothermal veins in thin layers and multiple rings, and the thin stripes of color are characteristic of rhodochrosite that grew as annual growth rings in the form of stalactites and flow stone. The weight of this gem is a hefty 295gms. This very aesthetic piece has been polished on both sides to show the very fine interior color banding, and is very impressive when backlit. The darkish mineral at the narrow end is sphalerite. This mine is probably the oldest working mine in South America, going back many many centuries.
