DARWIN GLASS – IMPACTITE – TASMANIA – SOLD
For sale is a specimen of Darwin glass, (impactite) from Western Tas. This translucent piece is an unusual grey yellow color. Its a fine example of this Australian Impactite, the area this came from is now a National Park , so no collecting is allowed. This is a specimen from an old collection. Interestingly, this event that caused this specimen that happened 800,000 years ago, produced twice as much Darwin Glass material as the size of the impact, would have predicted. A bit of a mystery there!
